YUM concentrates on making the users cooking routine easier in the aspect of grocery shopping and meal planning/prep. With features like recipe search and save, grocery listing, and meal planning, YUM will make your life easier on a day-to-day basis!

YUM - Grocery & recipe app

Target Audience - ages 12+

This semester-long project was created as a part of a Capstone class during the 4th year of my Visual Communications degree at KSU.

Problem

PROBLEM

No idea what to make for dinner? Don't know how to cook? Grocery shopping and meal planning/prep are inevitable parts of life. Whether you are a planner with your weekly meals, throw together what's left in the fridge, or somewhere in between, there is a routine that can be simplified to make your grocery shopping and cooking process easier.

During the research I did, I surveyed a group of users ranging in ages from 21 to 59 to get a feel for features that would be useful in easing up the process. I focused on improving and simplifying the overall experience of the users in the various procedures they go through in the cooking routine by including the app features listed.

App Features -

Save recipes to profile
Grocery list creation from recipes
Weekly meal planning
Recipe search by ingredient(s) and more
Recipe sorting by difficulty level, time, and more
Dietary restrictions and allergies
Ingredient likes and dislikes

RESEARCH

Finding -

56% of the surveyors only cook for themselves
67% prefer to make easy-level meals while the rest prefer intermediate to elaborate

11% have dietary restrictions

89% make grocery lists
78% collect favorite recipes

Feature -

Ability to adjust any recipe to any serving size, including 1
Ability to search for recipes based on difficulty, including easy. All recipes are also explained in the most simple terms so that even more elaborate recipes are able to be accomplished by a beginner
Although a small number have dietary restrictions, there is still an option to customize this in the profile feature for those that do
Ability to create grocery lists from recipes
Ability to save recipes to profile

SOLUTION

YUM is an app that combines all of the tasks that go into grocery shopping and meal planning/prep to ease up the cooking routine. The main goal of YUM is to reduce the amount of effort that goes into grocery shopping and meal planning in an efficient way by combining recipe search and saving, cooking instructions, meal planning, and grocery listing into one app.
